Wood Valley Managed Fill

Wood Valley Managed Fill: Expert Waste Management Solutions

Geosciences stepped in to offer their expertise for the establishment of a managed fill at Wood Valley in Waimauku, Auckland. This essential project involved defining site-specific waste acceptance criteria, particularly for Stage 1 of the development. This phase encompassed the creation of criteria for a managed fill facility covering an expansive 84,771 square meters, with an estimated capacity to accommodate up to 920,000 cubic meters of fill material.

A staged fill process was carefully devised, involving the placement of approximately 873,000 cubic meters of managed fill, followed by 47,000 cubic meters of clean fill. Stage 2 of the project expanded further, encompassing an additional 11 hectares and accommodating up to 1,650,000 cubic meters of fill material.

Geosciences played a pivotal role in the development and operation of this site, offering the following services:

Site-Specific Criteria: Geosciences tailored site-specific waste acceptance criteria and assessed potential effects stemming from discharges during the facility's lifespan.

Fill Management Plans: Comprehensive Fill Management Plans were created, outlining a multi-disciplinary approach to site operations. These plans ensured meticulous management of fill screening, fill testing, quarantine, dust control, litter management, stormwater management, and noise control procedures, all in strict accordance with consent conditions.

Environmental Benchmark Monitoring: Prior to commencing operations, Geosciences conducted environmental benchmark monitoring of surface water and sediment to establish baseline conditions.

Environmental Compliance Monitoring: Throughout the facility's operation, Geosciences continued environmental compliance monitoring in strict accordance with the conditions imposed on the facility.

Training Initiatives: To bolster operational safety, Geosciences designed and conducted training sessions for Dirtworks personnel. These sessions covered critical topics such as asbestos awareness, soil sampling, and general contamination awareness, preparing teams to respond effectively in the event of an unexpected discovery of contamination during waste receiving processes.

With Geosciences' comprehensive solutions, Wood Valley Managed Fill is equipped to operate efficiently and responsibly, setting a high standard in waste management practices.
